Clarence Joseph Hruska, 88, of Omaha, died at home on October 12, 2026, with his wife of 63 years, Irene, beside him.
He was born in 1938 on a farm near Wahoo and moved to Omaha at nineteen to work in the railroad shops, where he stayed for 41 years. He could fix anything with a motor and most things without one, and he never let a grandchild leave his garage without a lesson in how a carburetor works.
Every Sunday for fifty years he made pancakes for whoever showed up, and someone always did. He was a college football fan through the good years and the others, a patient fisherman and a terrible card player who never stopped trying.
He is survived by Irene, their three children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service
Visitation Wednesday, 5pm to 7pm. Funeral Thursday, 10am. Both at Vossler Funeral Home, 6120 Military Avenue. Burial follows in the family plot. The service will be livestreamed.
Memorials
In place of flowers, the family asks for gifts to a local food pantry, in memory of the pancakes.
