Rosalie Gutierrez, 67, of Omaha, died on October 11, 2026, after a short illness, with her family singing to her.

Rosalie was born in South Omaha in 1959 and never wanted to live anywhere else. She spent 38 years as an emergency room nurse, most of them on nights, and trained more young nurses than anyone can count. They all remember her rule: wash your hands, then hold theirs.

Off the clock she danced salsa every Friday for thirty years, grew marigolds the size of fists and cooked tamales by the hundred every December. Her laugh could be heard from the parking lot.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, four grandchildren and a great many friends.

Celebration of life

Sunday, 4pm, at a neighborhood park pavilion, with music and food. Wear something bright; she would insist. The celebration will be held in English and Spanish.

Memorials

Gifts in her name to a nursing scholarship fund are welcome.
